15.01.2009 IDPs get the Land into Private Ownership, Free-of-Charge


Internally displaced persons will get residential and agricultural land parcels transferred to them by the State into private ownership, free-of-charge.

 

On December 18, 2008, Parliament of Georgia amended the law on Privatization of State Owned Agricultural LandAccording to the law “citizens of Georgia who have resided on the occupied territories and lost properties shall get the title, free-of-charge, on state-owned agricultural land in case of declaring the emergency situation or/and state of war by the president of Georgia according to Article 2 of the Law on Emergency Situation or Article 2 of the Law on the State of War, based on special decision by the government of Georgia”.

 

The law defines the transference of land to the citizens of Georgia permanently residing on the occupied territories to be the free-of charge privatization. Decision on this form of privatization shall be taken by the government of Georgia, under the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development. Unused state-owned land or the former leased land is subject to the free-of-charge privatization.

 

Those IDPs who received the residential and agricultural land parcels should address to respective territorial agency of the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia. Territorial agency will make the special minutes on land transference which should be submitted to appropriate registration office of the National Agency of Public Registry.  Based on this minute registration office shall register the title to the land parcels transferred to IDPs.
