Project Abstract:

Since the sheep export from Georgia to the Arabic countries increased last year, Georgian farmers have become more interested to be involved in this sector of livestock breeding. On its turn, the State attributed greater attention to the development of sheep breeding to facilitate increased production.

For improving situation in the sector, restoration, improvement and protection of livestock movement corridors and associated grazing areas is necessary at first. Large parts of such territories are now deteriorated, illegally occupied or privatized. To resolve this problem proper regulation and control by the State is urgently needed.

National agency of Public Registry contracted the Association for Protection of Landowners Rights for identification and registration of livestock movement corridors and associated grazing areas. For this purpose APLR at first identifies such corridors and areas on orthophotos through the use of old maps and then checks the data on site; carries out cadastral surveys and prepares respective maps; identifies all land parcels within the borders of livestock movement corridors and grazing areas that are illegally occupied or privatized, as well as owners and users of these parcels. All collected information is entered into GIS database to be submitted to NAPR for registering these territories as state property.

Restoration and rehabilitation of sheep movement corridors and grazing areas, as well as their effective management and use will become possible as a result of project implementation.
