Provision of Land Ownership Data for SCP Expansion
Status: Ongoing Full Activity Title: Provision of SCP Expansion Land Ownership Data Services Activity Dates: October, 2010– December, 2012 Source of Funding: BP Exploration (Caspian Sea)
Project Abstract: The 692-km South Caucasus Gas Pipeline, starting operation in 2006, has been designed to transport natural gas from Shah Deniz, the largest gasfield in Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, through Georgia to Turkey and Europe. It is envisioned that at full capacity the pipeline will export up to 20 billion cubic meter of gas a year, after additional stages of development. Expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline is part of the Shah Deniz Full Field Development project. This expansion will involve the laying of new pipeline across Azerbaijan and Georgia and the construction of two new compressor stations in Georgia. At the border with Turkey, the pipeline will link into other new ones to provide gas into Turkey and the European Union. BP Exploration (Caspian Sea), technical operator for SCP, together with its partners is responsible for managing and carrying out pipeline development activities. For land registration purposes within construction corridor in Georgia, that is necessary for SCP Expansion Project implementation, BP Exploration contracted Association for Protection of Landowners Rights to provide required services. Based on the contract signed with Operator Company, APLR collects ownership data within 60 km-long and 50 meter-wide expansion corridor in Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe and Tsalka municipalities; production of parcel plans and initial registration is ensured for each land plot affected; if necessary, division of land parcels and respective registration of ownership rights is carried out. Project implementation will facilitate expansion of SCP that will triple the gas volumes exported through the pipeline to over 20 billion cubic meters per year. |
